Communications Update

Hello everyone –

It’s been a little too long since I’ve written, and I have some nice info to share.

Windhorse is just about ready to launch our very first, in terms of consistency, electronic newsletter!

In fact, you may be reading our blog for the first time by way of this very newsletter!

It is exciting to me for a number of reasons, but the main one is that since the very beginning of Windhorse, when it was still called The Midwest Shambhala Retreat Center, Alan and I wanted to have a monthly communication sent out to all who were interested.  It always seemed we were too busy with keeping things going to take the time to communicate – not a wise idea.  So, may this be the dawn of  a new era of  information, transparency and delight.

The current plan, which still may be tweaked as we see fit, is to make the newsletter fairly short and pithy with the intention of magnetizing people to the website.  The website is in pretty good functional order at this point in time, but we plan to add more specific information about what we offer, pricing and rentals, how to become more involved if you choose to be, as well as interviews with inspiring people who are committed to meditation, peace and sustainability in very practical and extraordinary ways.

Please take a leisurely look at the website if you haven’t for a while and keep checking back to see what is new.

A quick mention for this month: we have a one day event on May 30th that focuses on mind and body/mental and physical health taught by two friends of mine, Sahnya Thom and Deb Slota. I will be providing a tasty home cooked vegetarian meal and be available to answer questions that arise about retreat, meditation and Windhorse.

We look forward to seeing you!

  1. Hi, Sue! Allthough not a student of Sakyong Mipham, but a student of Khenpo Tsewang Dongyal Rinpoche of PBC, I came to the Queer Dharma retreat last summer. It was great!Anyways, is Rebecca McAllister still part of the organization? Hopefully, I’ll come back for another retreat someday. How is fundraising for the Pavillion coming?

    • Hi Hans,

Rebecca is no longer working for Windhorse and I stepped back in to manage; I was the former director from 2001 to when Rebecca took over in 2013. The Pavilion is currently on hold until we take care of some other financial obligations. It is still on the “to do” list just further down the list- next season instead of this season, although it would be excellent if we could make it happen this fall but that seems to be a long shot.

I’ve noticed, an very much appreciated, your periodic donations; have they been specifically for the pavilion? If so I can mark them as such. Please let me know.

p.s. There is another Queer Dharma weekthun set for August case you are interested.
